About this Item
16; 30; 30; 24; 31; 30 p. 22 cm. Half leather with paper-covered boards. Marbled endpapers. Worn corners, rubbed boards, some wear to spine. Ink signatures on front free endpaper. Title continues: "A Satire. Addressed to The Duke of Wellington, Chancellor of That University; Field-Marshal in the Army; Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, Etc. Etc. Etc. Part The Second: The Intellectual System. Part The Third: The Discipline and Morale. Part The Fourth: A Simple Tale of Seduction. Part The Fifth. On The Admission of Dissenters, and on The Character of The London University. Part The Sixth. The Installation and Conclusion." Cox is thought to have had a brief life, dying of a fever while still a student at Oxford University. This is apparently the only poetry he published, written when the Duke of Wellington became Chancellor. The verses appear to satirize old school Oxfordians who saw in every slight change the demise of the university itself. The latter 5 of the 6 parts called Second Edition. Seller Inventory # 116577
