pp 412 The 5th edition, February 1936, in publisher's brown cloth with gilt titles and bird vignette to upper cover, photographic end papers, speckled edges, attractive colour plates. Near fine, the covers are clean, the gilt bright, thumb marks to text block edge but otherwise clean in a firm binding. Ownership inscription of Mary Eyre Wallis October 7th 1936 "From Tinny-tips", along with her hand written bird list laid in. This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis.
