The investigations were conducted by the River Basin Surveys, Smithsonian Institution, in cooperation with the National Park Service as a part of the Interagency Archaeological and Paleontological Salvage Program. Archaeological investigation of the Yellowtail Reservoir area by the River Basin Surveys spanned an 18-year period, from 1946 through the summer of 1964.
