About this Item
Slim 8vo. [4], v-xiii, [1], 61, [3] pp. Maroon cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Price of $2.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. A facsimile reproduction with a foreword by C.D. Broad. In 1942 G.H. Hardy printed a pamphlet for private circulation among Cambridge scholars in his inner circle. This pamphlet explained the story of Bertrand Russell's exposure from Trinity College over his conscientious objections towards the First World War. Russell was accused by the British government of harming the army's recruiting effort for the war. This led to his expulsion from the Cambridge faculty. Hardy's pamphlet illuminates historical attitudes towards pacifism, and sheds light on what Russell's close colleagues thought of the matter. Book is Fine, the dust jacket is Very Good or better with the bottom corner of the front flap clipped (presumably by the publisher) and a small sticker ghost to the rear panel.
