About this Item
"The Beautiful and Damned" by F. SCOTT FITZGERALD. 1922 1st reprint edition, 2nd printing (April); A.L. Burt Company; New York. Fitzgerald's second novel, the story portrays New York cafe society and the American Eastern elite during the Jazz Age. From a review: "As in his other novels, Fitzgerald's characters in this novel are complex, materialistic and experience significant disruptions in respect to classism, marriage, and intimacy. The novel purportedly was based on the early years of Fitzgerald's marriage to his wife Zelda Fitzgerald." Condition: Clean front and back covers; "493" is written by hand and is barely visible near the center of the spine. Bright gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Tiny cloth tears at 3 of the cover corner tips. There is a crack at the front hinge between the copyright page and dedication page - despite the crack, the front cover is still firmly attached and is not shaky. The text pages are in nice condition - lightly age-toned and clean with only a couple small, dark foxing spots at the bottom half of a few pages at the front. "The Downsville Book Club" is stamped in ink on the front pastedown and front end paper. Name/address written in pen at the top-left corner of the front pastedown. Overall the book is in Good condition. Seller Inventory # ABE-1695062004852
