This 4.25 x 7.0 inch, 396 page hardcover book is the stated fifth edition of this title by C & G Kearsley - - with the titling and Fifth Edition on the title page and with the notation -*Printed for C & G Kearsley, at N. 46, in Fleet Street Price 3 Shillings and sixpence sewed.*- There is no further printing information although there is a previous owners inked name on the ffep dating July 22, 1793. This copy is in poor condition with the binding apart and with one cover board missing - - and with the leather covering to the one board and spine hand-worn through the leather to the boards. The binding is separated at about the mid-point of the binding with the two halves still individually sewed securely. The interior pages show extensive paper staining and considerable foxing but with the text fully apparent and much of the text in good to very good condition. The text pages show 384 pages followed by nine numbered pages of index and three numbered pages of advertising at the very end. The advertisements - - -*Books Recently Published for C&G Kearsley*- - - and show about thirteen titles. This edition shows two plates - - one at the frontispiece and one at page 294. This book is surely a candidate for rebinding but is an early Coarsely edition with a four page -*Preface to the First Edition 1784*- beginning the text pages - - and followed by a six-page -*Account of the life of William Shakespeare.*- 396 pages.
