About this Item
By a member of Company D, First Regiment Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry, who describes this book as "a graphic recital of personal experiences through the entire Civil War, in which the author was actually engaged in twenty-five battles and skirmishes, was three times captured and incarcerated in Andersonville, Libby, Millen, and other Southern prisons. A vivid and truthful description of the life of a Union volunteer in all its different phases--on the battlefield, in the prison den, at the picket line, & in the camp and bivouac. In fact, a recital of, possibly, as varied and thrilling events as were known during all the wild vicissitudes of that terrible four years of internecine strife." In 633 pages + 16 pages on glossy paper containing photos, maps, & steel engravings of battles, prisons, & personnel.
