About this Item
Handsome color lithograph advertisement featuring a double hemisphere world map superimposed with a large axe head printed in relief for a very dramatic effect. Its blade is highlighted in silver gilt. Australia is printed in green at the bottom right, shown with the states delineated (Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, NSW and Victoria) but lacks Tasmania as the "c" in company occupies that space. The headline printed in red at the top, with "The Best is the Cheapest. Collins & Co. Hartford, Conn, USA" printed at the bottom. Collins & Co., founded in 1824-1826, built a factory at South Canton CT, and became one of the leading manufacturers of edged tools; their axes became known as the 'Standard of the World". 12 x 19", embossed, with 2 punched holes at top edge for string cord to hand the plaque. Slightly rubbed at corners, the colors bright and fresh. Seller Inventory # 26131
