Cram Company was established and the Cram name quickly became synonymous with accuracy and innovation. This detailed country map shows mountain, rivers, railroads, and towns. This colorful map was produced by George F. Cram in 1883, and appeared in "Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World", Chicago Illinois. This early Cram map appears early in the mapmakers career, who was one of the first American map makers to start using Lithographic Coloring techniques. Lithographic color made for detailed and accurate coloring of maps. This map shows great detail including countries, major cities and towns, lakes and rivers, mountains, railroads and regions and or provinces. Single page map of mostly Australia (10 1/2" x 14"), colored. Paper slightly brittle, left margin has pencil marks, some normal aging and browning; otherwise about very good. George F. Cram (1842-1928) served in the army during the Civil War, and founded his map company in Illinois in 1867; long after most of the major map companies established their business. and started making globes in 1932, and continued as a business for over 130 years.
