About this Item
146 b&w photos in 28 cm black cloth album. Wear to cloth at corners and spine tail. Rubbing to boards. All photos pasted in, none loose. Not labelled. These photos show men in uniform, camping scenes, group photos (two with names), bridge building, etc. The album dates to a time when the Argentine military in general, and the Army in particular, was contributing to developing Argentina's unsettled southern frontier and its nascent industrial complex. Without locations being specified, however, it's difficult to tell where in the country these photos were taken. In1902, it was estimated that Argentina had over 700,000 men with some form of military experience in either the regular army or national guard. Its military personnel allowed it to greatly overshadow its closest rival, Brazil, and made Argentina well prepared to take the side of the Axis during World War I. Handsome soldier on first leaf may have been the album's owner. Seller Inventory # 133728
