Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) had fought under Nelson at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, and again in the BELLEROPHON at Trafalgar in 1805. However, he is chiefly remembered for his polar expeditions for the Royal Navy, and particularly for his last fateful expedition in the EREBUS and TERROR that set out from England in May 1845 in search of the elusive North-West Passage. Franklin was last sighted at the entrance of Lancaster Sound in July 1845. In 1852 the author was dispatched on the errand to discover his fate. This is an account of that expedition, Seller Inventory # 93522
