Full cloth binding. Covers clean. A touch of fraying at top of spine. Very little wear visible elsewhere. Paper title labels, orange and black, on front cover and spine. The one on the spine has faded to yellow and black. Top page edges look somewhat orange-ish and/or soiled. Former owner's name written on flyleaf. The year 1928 is printed under the publisher's name on the title page. On the copyright page various copyright years are given, including Doubleday, Page and Company as the preceding year, being 1927. Whether this indicates that the book was first published as a book in 1927, I don't know. Various newspapers had copyrights on the material at various times. In any case, George Herriman's cartoons had not yet been used with the book. There is a single sketch of an alley cat on the title page, but this cat is not seen anywhere else, nor are there any other illustrations. Finally, the title-page cat has not an ounce of Herriman's weighty, delightful cartoons. Herriman's illustrations apparently began in the reprint of 1930. A rather insignificant separation problem in the binding can be seen between the half-title page and the flyleaf. It is not yet a major worry. Other than the owner signature mentioned above, there are no marks in the interior. 196 pages. Binding is square. Seller Inventory # 7626
