Includes many textual illustrations. 8vo, red pebbled cloth with bevelled edges, gilt lettering to spine, t.e.g. An account of the Swiss-born American archaeologist's excurision into Mexico in the early part of the 1880s, beginning at the mouth of the Rio Grande near the city of Tampico,before progressing southward towards Mexico City. The bulk of the volume details his archaeological reconnaissance in and around the Cholula region (presently located in the state of Puebla). It finishes with a brief accountof Bandelier's venture to Mitla (in Oaxaca). Spine publisher reads "Cupples, Upham and Co.", while on the title page, it states "Cupples and Hurd". Spine ends nicked, some light fraying to extremities, two damp splotches near top edge of front board, some rubbing, inner hinges cracked, pp. 65-80 nearly detached, inked note to ffep, else vg. 400.00.
