This volume focuses on the role and development of arbitration within Africa and provides details of the laws of arbitration in a variety of African countries. Issues discussed include the historical background of arbitration in various African states, the status of/challenge to arbitration, and regional and international arbitration legislation and institutions. Appendix One contains the text of the laws of those African countries which have adopted the UNCITRAL model law, while Appendix Two provides a list of African countries abiding by the New York convention of 1958, the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) of 1965, and the convention establishing the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (HISA) of 1985.
