First edition. 8vo. xvi, 326 pp. Publisher's sand cloth, gilt and black lettered to spine, dust jacket, price clipped, signed by the Thesiger on the title page, loosely inserted is a handwritten note from Gerald and Marjorie Thesiger on headed paper dated Autumn 1950 addressed to a Guy Edmiston. Frontispiece and 68 photographic illustrations, 8 maps plus a folding map in a pocket at the end. Fading to the red lettering on the jacket spine, a little light wear wear to the edges and foxing to the rear panel, milder spotting to the front and rear leaves and fore edge, else very good. The author spent five years exploring the Empty Quarter, from 1945-50, and was the first to twice cross the desert. "The crowning touches have placed on this exploratory activity in Arabia by Wilfred Thesiger who is probably the greatest of all the explorers." (St. John Philby). Gerald Thesiger was a distant cousin of the Wilfred. Seller Inventory # 46590
