About this Item
Unbound. 58 pp. Uncut. The first page is torn along the right margin, with loss of 3 or 4 letters. More of the aftermath of the failure of the Bank of Maryland in 1832. This was Poultney's defense against his former partners, Reverdy Johnson, John Glenn, D. M. Perine, Evan T. Ellicott and Hugh McElderry, as the leadership of the bankrupt Bank of Maryland. On the first page, Poultney says "Even after the failure of the Bank, such was my confidence in the honour and integrity of my associates, that I was content to bear the responsibility of the failure, until I found that they had resolved to make me a victim, and to sacrifice me for their own safety."
