About this Item
During a horse race in England in 1868 a horse named Chimney Sweep collided with a barrier on the Melling Road and had to be euthanized. Melling road is a public road that crosses the racecourse and is named after the village of Melling. The caricature is by the famous painter, illustrator and caricaturist, who specialized in horse racing and, it turns out, an anti semite, not an anomaly in 19th (and even 21st) century England.
