About this Item
Count Tolstoy's 'first true novel,' translated by Nathan Haskell Dole and with illustrations by Paul Frénzeny. Maroon cloth covered boards with gilt (gold) titles and decorative effects at the perimeters on the front cover. T.E.G. With its ten b/w illustrations, this is an appealing looking book with carefully curated contents; including a character list (Chief Persons of the Story), glossary of terms (Russian words and phrases - see image) and publisher's list (the first page of which has come loose). Condition: corners of boards are curved. Slightly loose binding. The pages are mildly to moderately tanned with occasional spotting; the tanning being much more evident on the preliminary and final ones. pp. 769/8vo. Undated.
