Maroon cloth covered boards with gilt (gold) titles and decorative effects at the perimeters on the front cover. T.E.G. With its ten b/w illustrations, this is an appealing looking book with carefully curated contents; including a character list (Chief Persons of the Story), glossary of terms (Russian words and phrases - see image) and publisher's list (the first page of which has come loose). Condition: corners of boards are curved. Slightly loose binding. The pages are mildly to moderately tanned with occasional spotting; the tanning being much more evident on the preliminary and final ones. pp. 769/8vo. Undated. NB - an anomaly: the frontispiece (portrait of Count Tolstoy) is upside down (image).
