xvi, 300 p. 19 cm. Half leather with marbled boards. Marbled endpapers and red text block edges. Some rubbing and bumped corners. Front endpapers scuffed. Inscriptions on front endpapers. Very clean. Title continues: "With a Synchronistical Table of Principal Events; Tables of Weights, Measures, Money, and Distances; an Outline of the History and Geography; and the Dates Completed from Gaisford, Baehr, Etc." James Talboys Wheeler (1824-1897) attempted an unsuccessful career as a publisher and bookseller before venturing into authorship of student handbooks. He is better known for his career in India where he was appointed professor of "moral and mental philosophy" at Madras College. He went on to become a bureaucrat and historian.
