A rarely seen early edition of this Australian travel diary. 8vo, red cloth, gilt lettering to spine & emblem to front board, 347pp plus 48pp publisher's catalogue, dated October 1888. Frontis engraved plate (The Queen of the South), & 14 further full page b&w illustrations. Title page states 1886 and "Second Edition". Bookplate on pastedown, neat ink name on verso of endpaper. Very clean pages and plates, textblock very solid and tight. Foxing to endpapers, inner joints split but hinges fine. Small nicks at head & foot of spine. Presents very well. Overall, a really nice copy of a rare book. Seller Inventory # 2858
