About this Item
A collection of seven books of songs bound as one with music, written for the use of small children, together with directions for actions to be performed while singing them. Seven books bound in one. Very good in light brown cloth, A.E.G. with gilt title to spine - "Action Songs.Grant". With the exception of the first title, all other titles appear to be first editions starting in 1897 and finishing in 1910. The first title is not illustrated, the next five titles are illustrated by Mildred Emma and the final title is illustrated by Ethel McBride-Legh. Each title has a Preface in which Laura Chant explains the reasons behind the origins of the songs. Chant was a social Purist, Temperance campaigner, Feminist, activist and reformer with links to Women's Suffrage groups (see Crawford's reference guide to the Women's Suffrage movement). The delightful illustrations consist of head-pieces to the songs which are not unlike the work of Cecily M. Barker. Uncommon. Seller Inventory # 000698
