An Account of the Pelew Islands, Situated in the Western Part of the Pacific Ocean, Composed from the Journals and Communications of Captain Henry Wilson and Some of his Officers, Who in August 1783 Were There Shipwrecked in The Antelope, A Packet Belonging to the Honourable East India Company. Keate, George. London: G. Nicol, 1789. Third edition (stated). The shipwreck of the East India Company?s ship near one of the Islands brought about the first exploration of the group by Europeans. A fascinating read about survival, relationships with the Islanders, wars between islands with assistance by the crew, and the building of an escape vessel which took them back to Macao. Prince Lee Boo, the son of the King, accompanied them back to England, where he died of smallpox. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Wilson,17 portraits, views and plans. Many full page. Two large folding illustrations - one a chart/map of the islands, and one a view of the islands. Hardcover, bound in later quarter leather with marbled boards, newer endpapers. 9x12 inches. 378 pages. Five raised bands with gilt decorations and gilt titles in a red band on the spine, date at bottom of spine in gilt.
