About this Item
BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, xii, 193, (iv) pgs. illustrations by Victor Perard. Decorative cover with gilt elephant in river; gilt titled spine and cover. Later printing of the 1903 first edition. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Covers are lightly soiled, else clean; some rubbing to gilt, still bright. Interior is clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author, Paul Du Chaillu, was a French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist. He became famous in the 1860s as the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas, and later the Pygmy people of central Africa.
