Friedrich Nietzsche was a very influential German philosopher whose works have had a major impact on modern Western philosophy. Nietzsche wrote on a great variety of subjects including religion, good vs. evil, science, history, and others. Many of Nietzsche's books are still widely read today, especially Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Beyond Good and Evil, and The Antichrist. Ecce Homo, published in 1888, is Nietzsche's classic autobiography which provides great insight into the philosopher's life and works.

Frederich Nietzsche (1844-1900) became the chair of classical philology at Basel University at the age of 24 until his bad health forced him to retire in 1879. He divorced himself from society until his final collapse in 1899 when he became insane. He died in 1900.
