Luca Invernizzi Tettoni tells the stories of aristocrats such as Jim Thompson and Count de Mauny-Talvande who were drawn to the area, became enchanted and built their dream homes. A certain style developed that drew from the ancient island architecture and combined the practical use of indigenous materials and styles with Western luxuries and construction methods. More than 70 residences built from the 1920s to the mid-1990s are featured in the book. Each home is described in detail with accompanying photographs, design details and, in some cases, plans. Most of the properties are set in truly exotic locations with lush and vivid gardens with pools, cabanas and sweeping views that make the most of the climate and outdoor lifestyle. About the Author:

"Luca Invernizzi Tettoni," a world-renowned photographer who has lived and worked in Asia since 1973, specializes in books on aspects of Asian culture. Among his many books are "Balinese Gardens, The Tropical Garden" and "Thai Style." He currently lives in Singapore where he runs the photo agency Photobank.
