About the Author:
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), author and creator of the legendary Sherlock Holmes, was born in Scotland and studied medicine in Edinburgh University. He set up his medical practice in Southsea, but when it failed to do well, he started writing stories. Doyle's biggest achievement was the creation of Sherlock Holmes, whose methods of deduction were drawn from Doyle's own experience as a medical student. In later life, Doyle turned towards spiritualism and wrote several books on the subject
