ill. OPappband. / Hardcover. 1. Aufl. Text: dt, / engl. / franz./ ital. - // In the Swiss pavilion at the 2003 Venice Biennale, Emmanuelle Antille`s elaborate video installation Angels Camp told the story of a natural disaster. Nearly a year ago, the screenplay`s narrator explains, Hurricane Hazel hit the area. It only lasted part of the night. But nothing has ever been the same again. It destroyed houses, felled trees. Dogs and kids died. A thin layer of urine and peat was left over roads and fields, gluing our clothes together and sneaking into our beds. Afterwards, people started to see and feel weird things. Two volumes will be published on the occasion of this work. The first, Angels Camp/First Songs, presents an outline of the video through still photographs of the video`s characters and four short stories. The second is an artist`s book. Hardcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. W : 160 Seiten, 30 x 21 cm, zahlreiche farbige Abbildungen - A recurring fantasy in film and literature is the fate of characters exiled to a place where the structures of society no longer apply. Angels Camp-First Songs is a four screen video installation featuring an array of characters who in Antille's words "have decided to run away from society" to a place "where they build their own rules." Lasting a total of eighteen minutes, the work contains both the magic and violence of a fairy tale. It begins with an angel who doubles as a chanteuse. Played by Antille, this character opens and concludes the piece. Based on her actions, her position is one of judgment and/or an "immoral 'angel'" requiring sacrifice. The remaining characters form a makeshift family of refugees whose raucous play reveals both the liberating and negative aspects of their freedom. Seller Inventory # ABE-1719327722836
