Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First edition. 311p., maps, tables, bibl., index, wrps. The book deals with a linguistic study done in situ of the phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical-semantic peculiarities of Venezuelan Spanish spoken in the areas of Barlovento, east of Caracas, and the Bobures area, southeast of Lake Maracaibo. The data was collected in interviews with informants descendants of former slaves. It includes a historical and ethnological summary of the slave trade to Venezuela and the Caribbean in general with a view to discovering the tribal origins of the sub-Saharan slaves that arrived in Venezuela. It also contains a section of vocabulary of supposed African origin collected in both areas with the meanings that the words have in Venezuela and their possible Sudanese and / or Bantu origins according to the specific languages ??that have been tentatively identified phonetically and semantically (there are more of Bantu origin ). It offers at the same time some examples as part of the customary lexicon of the Barloventeños, thus completing the analysis of the distinguished phenomena of Barlovento's speech.
