His favorite example is The Mind of a Mnemonist ( in Spanish Little book of a great memory : The mind of a mnemonista1 ) of Alexander Luria ... He graduated from Queen 's College, Oxford and a doctorate in neuroscience at the University of California . He lives in New York since 1965. He is currently a clinical professor of neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine , associate professor of neurology at the Medical School of the University of New York and neurologist consultation for the Little Sisters of the Poor. He practices in the city of New York. Sacks describes his cases with little clinical detail , concentrating on the phenomenological experience ( subjective experience ) of the patient . Some of the changes described are chronic conditions or very severe disorders with significant impairment of functioning individual , however , emphasizes how patients Sacks made conpensatorias adaptations that allow them to correct or reduce their deficits in everyday life . In his most famous book , Awakenings ( one of whose cases became a film of the same title ) , recounts his experiences in the use of a natural substance newfound , L- dopa in patients affected by the epidemic lethargic encephalitis occurred in the 1920s was also the subject of the first film made for the Discovery documentary series of the BBC.
