A efectos prácticos, sin embargo, se entiende por Septuaginta los libros que Alfred Rahlfs recoge en su Septuaginta, Id est Vetus Testamentum graece iuxta LXX interpretes (Stuttgart 1935) y que coincide con los libros transmitidos por los principales códices: Vaticano, Sinaítico y Alejandrino, entre los siglos IV y V d. C. Dichos códices conservan las primeras biblias cristianas completas, que incluyen a continuación los escritos del Nuevo Testamento. El plan general de La Biblia griega - Septuaginta.
