Aguado ha practicado poesía amorosa, filosófica, lumpen, meditativa, racional, irracional, para niños, firmada, falsaria, en verso libre, en verso rimado, en haiku, en prosa; incluso su variedad más frecuente (poema meditativo en verso o versículo libre) admite muy distintos registros de un libro a otro, desde Primeros poemas del naufragio (1984) hasta su último poemario, Verbos (2010). La abundancia de su obra y las diferentes versiones secuenciales de la misma recomiendan ahorrar visiones reduccionistas al lector que se acerca a este agrupamiento, visiones por lo demás opuestas al natural mutante y sincrónico del autor, que prefiere las verdades múltiples y los grupos de personas (y de personalidades dentro de ellas) a las unicidades y que es más heraclitiano que parmenídeo. Bastará, para acercarse a su poética, apuntar una serie de ideas globales, dejando que sean los propios poemas y sus diferentes tonos los que vayan haciendo su trabajo en la mente del lector.
