"This book arises from a research project financed by the British Ministry of Overseas Development, the authors (an economist, a geographer, and a sociologist) are members of the School of Development Studies at the University of East Anglia. The core of the book is a socio-economic study of the west-central region of Nepal, with special reference to the effects of road construction, but the authors generalize from this to give a picture of the situation in Nepal as a whole and draw conclusions about the relations of dependency that may hold between different countries and different elements within a single country. As the question of dependency, usually between countries of the Third World and developed countries, is a live one among development economists the book should also be of considerable interest to readers other than specialists on Nepal." 332 pp. Seller Inventory # 34247
