The death of CIA operative Theodore G. "Ted" Shackley in December 2002 triggered an avalanche of obituaries from all over the world, some of them condemnatory. Ted Shackley's final CIA position was as associate deputy director for operations. He died in December 2002, weeks after completing this book. A twenty-six-year veteran of the CIA's Clandestine Service, his co-author Richard A. Finney is now a freelance journalist living in Springfield, Virginia.
