Synopsis
This book presents in an abstracted form, the essentials of theory and practice of Information Technology project management. It is aimed at getting the conceptual framework across to the readers. Two major approaches for presenting IT project management material are: by knowledge areas, and by project life cycle. This book largely follows the later approach (without losing the knowledge area context). An extra chapter has been added on "pre-project scenario", to give an organizational perspective of a project. Armed with these concepts and ideas, the IT project managers will be able to tackle their IT projects more successfully. This text is well suited for academic courses on ITPM, or for conducting an equivalent training programme for IT professionals. IT project managers who are aspiring to get appropriate certification (e.g. PMP from PMI, USA) will greatly benefit by reading this book. This book is equally useful to any busy professional who wishes to grasp the essentials without attending a formal instructional course.
About the Author
S. A. KELKAR, PhD (Michigan, USA), is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. He has over 35 years of experience in the field of information systems, information technology, and software engineering. Earlier, he has taught as a full timer at IITB, Mumbai, NIBM, Mumbai, and NITIE, Mumbai. He also teaches postgraduate courses in the area of operations research, and information resources management at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Dr. Kelkar has been a consultant to organizations such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Aptech and Voltas. Besides this text, he has authored six books, all published by PHI Learning, New Delhi.
