Synopsis
Republication of "Lu Yanshi - the prisoner" is a biographical novel by the highly acclaimed novelist Yan Gelin. The movie based on the book titled "Coming Home," directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Gong Li, is released in 2014. Yan tells a story of a carefree man named Lu Yanshi from a prominent and progressive family. Lu was smart, earned a PhD from the US, and returned to China to teach. His unwillingness to yield to the Communist ideology earned him the label of "counter-revolutionary" and was exiled to the barren northwest. His first life was carefree, his second, a prisoner. While he was imprisoned, his wife suffered from amnesia and didn't recognize him when he came home. Lu now devotes his life as a free man to reawaken her memory. Who, in such seemingly hopeless situation, is the prisoner?
