Isolated from the outside world, the western end of the Himalayas is home to the mythical valley of Shangri-La - a fictional place of tranquillity which is today synonymous with an earthly paradise...Author Laurence J. Brahm goes in search of Shangri-La, in a literal and metaphorical sense. He hitchhikes through some of the most remote and isolated mountainous landscapes of Tibet, through the Qinghai and Yunnan provinces. On his way, Brahm meets various individuals, including, monks, nomads and artists - each searching for their own particular Shangri-La. This insightful travel book acquaints the reader with old Tibetan traditions and culture. Brahm combines beautiful, photographs of the region of Tibet and interviews with famous Chinese personalities - covering everything, from philosophical views on self-discovery to inner peace. Brahm discovers that Shangri - La is indeed a state of mind.
