después en la «isla de la Libertad», sin que el joven veinteañero de
entonces intuyera que todas las ilusiones se derrumbarían una tras otra
en la medida en que la Revolución cubana mostrara su otra cara. Nuestros
años verde olivo es uno de los testimonios más contundentes sobre el
desencanto político de una revolución que marcó el siglo XX. Y es a la
vez la comprobación de que solo la literatura es capaz de narrar lo

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A young Chilean leaves his country in 1974 for East Germany, fleeing from the Pinochet dictatorship and seeking refuge in communism. There, he falls in love with the daughter of Commander Ulises Cienfuegos, who gives his consent for the marriage on the condition that the couple live in Cuba, where the ideals of the Revolution had been the will of the people. From the peace and liberty of the island, the young man had hoped to wait for his native country to recover its democratic tranquility. But Cuban socialism and the Chilean dictatorship begin to acquire distressing similarities. An orphan of political ideals, at the same time that he discovers that in Chile, nothing will ever be the same as it used to be, several of his political allies and family members become the very enemies he is trapped with.

About the Author:
Roberto Ampuero es uno de los escritores chilenos más leídos. Entre sus libros figuran las novelas La otra mujer, Los amantes de Estocolmo y Pasiones griegas, las memorias Nuestros años verde olivo y Detrás del Muro, y la serie policial de Cayetano Brulé. Su obra ha sido traducida a quince idiomas. Ha vivido en Cuba, Alemania, Suecia y México, y reside en Chile y Estados Unidos. Obtuvo su BA en la Universidad de La Habana, y su MA y PhD en The University of Iowa. Es fellow del prestigioso International Writing Program (IWP). Fue embajador en México y ministro presidente del CNCA. Es Senior Fellow de la Fundación para el Progreso (FPP), profesor visitante de la Universidad Finis Terrae y columnista.
