This map is double-sided to provide the best balance between a good scale and a convenient sheet size (size 99 x 69 cm / 39" x 27"). It is waterproof and tear-resistant, durable enough to survive time spent in the rucksack, pocket or on a restaurant table. The map is a part of a 9-sheet series covering all of Chile at an exceptionally good scale.
Coverage extends from just above 48°45' (Lago O'Higgins) to 54°30' south. The northern half of the map is at 1:400,000 and includes Campo del Hiero Sur with the Viedma glacier, Torres del Paine National Park, and, across the border in Argentina, El Chaltén, Lago Viedma, Los Glaciares National Park, Lago Argentino Los Glaciares National Park and El Calafate. The southern half, centred on Punta Arenas, is at 1:550,000 and includes Puerto Natales, the Chilean part of the Tierra del Fuego, and the whole of the Magellan Straights.
The map provides a vivid picture of the terrain, using satellite imagery as a base, with shading and altitude colouring, plus plenty of names of mountain ranges, peaks, passes, salt flats, etc. National parks and other protected areas are prominently highlighted.
Road network indicates dirt roads and tracks, as well as hard and soft 4WD roads, and shows border crossings, petrol stations, toll booths and police units. Driving distances are marked on main and selected secondary routes. Local airports are marked. Symbols indicate various places of interest and areas for recreational activities, including tourist info offices, UNESCO World Heritage and other cultural or historical sites, hot springs, trekking areas, etc. Each side of the map has its own index and a distance table. The map has a latitude and longitude grid at 15' intervals.
Map legend includes Spanish, English and German. Authentic, reliable Chilean cartography.
