Synopsis
Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) hat die Bildhauerei eines ganzen Jahrhunderts gepragt. Die Dresdner Skulpturensammlung konnte bis 1912 mit insgesamt 20 Werken die groate Rodin-Sammlung in Deutschland anlegen - vielleicht auch die ungewohnlichste, denn neben Bronzen und einem Marmorwerk sind es vor allem Gipsplastiken, die diesen Bestand ausmachen. Rodin schatzte die asthetische Wirkung von Gips. Zudem hatte der Bildhauer ein groaes Interesse an dem damals noch jungen Medium der Fotografie und nutzte dieses zur Verbreitung seiner Werke und zu deren Interpretation. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Fotografen Eugene Druet entstanden ab 1896 Aufnahmen, die Rodins Werke aus ungewohnlichen Perspektiven und in einer atmospharischen Inszenierung zeigen. Diese wurden ebenfalls von der Dresdner Sammlung erworben.

Condition: Gut. 79 S. The Dresden Skulpturensammlung was the first German museum to purchase works by the sculptor. This was thanks to the Director at the time, Georg Treu (1843-1921). By the time the last work was purchased in 1912, the Museum owned a total of 20 works, thus boasting the largest Rodin collection in Germany - and perhaps also the most unusual, since the collection not only includes bronzes and one marble sculpture but consists primarily of works sculpted in plaster. Furthermore, the renowned museum director also purchased photographs by Eugène Druet because he was aware of the significance of these images for the perception of Rodin's sculptures. With a total of 20 works, the Dresden Sculpture Collection had until 1912 created the largest Rodin collection in Germany. It is, perhaps, also the most unusual collection, consisting, in addition to bronzes and one marble work, above all of plaster sculptures. Rodin appreciated the esthetic effect of plaster. Also, he had a strong interest in the then still young medium of photography, which he used as an opportunity to make his works known, as well as for their interpretation. As from 1896, photographs showing Rodin's works from unusual perspectives and in atmospheric presentations were taken in cooperation with the photographer Eugène Druet.
