About the Author:
Arndt wurde am 26.12.1769 in Groß-Schoritz als Sohn eines ehemaligen Leibeigenen auf Rügen geboren. Er studierte Geschichte und Theologie. 1805 wurde er Professor in Greifswald. Wegen seiner antinapoleonischen Flugschrift "Geist der Zeit" mußte er nach Stockholm fliehen. Er folgte 1812 dem Freiherrn vom Stein als Privatsekretär nach Petersburg. Arndt starb am 29.01.1860 in Bonn.
