This title includes texts by Bernhart Schwenk, and Eva Wattolik. In a new series of drawings, Fumie Sasabuchi (born in Tokyo in 1975) features the theme of young children and juveniles in advertisements. She chooses exactly those pictures in which the young seem to have lost their innocence and are demeaned to become seductive sirens of consumption. Sasabuchi applies to the children's skin tattoos of guardian deities, serpents and demons, which in Japan serve as the insignia of the Yakuza, the Japanese Mafia, and signals membership of a criminal gang. Their skin has been inscribed with ancient images that tell of the battle between good and evil, of mortal life at the abyss and the great mystery of death. Sasabuchi's children are very young but no longer innocent, and this innocence contrasts with the insignia of society's rejects - above all else Sasabuchi's works point out how much more the appearance of these children in fashion editorials addresses the needs of the adult viewer than their own.
