The photographer Henning Retzlaff and author Frauke Tuttlies have spent three years documenting the inhabitants of the St Pauli area of Hamburg known as the 'sinner??AAs mile'. Their subjects are the hotel, bar and brothel owners, prostitutes, dancers and artists who give the district its typical atmosphere and who have made the district what it is today. Although Henning Retzlaff photographed his subjects in their 'favourite places', his portraits focus on the individual rather than the surroundings. Nothing distracts the viewer, not even colour. In comparison Frauke Tuttlies' texts provide a 'colourful' accompaniment to create a bizarre mixture of art, poetry, erotic photography and documentation. The series of portraits presented by Henning Retzlaff and Frauke Tuttlies shows a new face of a well-known neighbourhood.
