Ill.OBr; gering berieben, Kopfschnitt gering gebräunt, sonst in gutem Zustand. Alfred Marnau, Schriftsteller und Übersetzer, geb. am 24. 4. 1918 in Pressburg (Ungarn), gest. am 15. 6. 1999 in London. Marnau ging 1935 nach Prag, arbeitet als Schauspieler, Übersetzer und Journalist, emigrierte 1939 nach London und war bis 1941 interniert. Er trat in Kontakt mit der Dichtergruppe "New Romantics", arbeitete als Redakteur der Zeitschrift "Poetry Quarterly" und gab von 1945 bis 1946 die Zeitschrift "New Road" heraus. Seit 1944 war er eng mit Oskar Kokoschka befreundet und als Übersetzer der Werke von Christopher Marlowe, John Webster und Endre Ady tätig. Er veröffentlichte u. a. die Romantrilogie Die Mitwirkenden, die sich aus Der steinerne Gang (1948), Das Verlangen nach der Hölle (1952) sowie Polykarp und Zirpelin Imperator (1987) zusammensetzt und gab Lyrik von Jesse Thoor heraus (vgl. Literaturarchiv der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek). Die Vignette auf dem vorderen Umschlag wurde dem Werk von Eric Gill entnommen. Seller Inventory # 17186
