Synopsis
Works from a host of artists have been brought together in this book which celebrates women as a goddess, mother, wife, lover and femme fatale. Among the artists featured are Pierre Bonnard, Paul Cezanne, Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Kees van Dongen, Paul Gauguin, Fernand Leger, Henry Matisse, Joan Miro, Amedeo Modigliani and Auguste Renoir. Thirty images by Picasso in pencil, watercolour and pastel-chalk are also included. Most of the 80 works in this collection have rarely, if ever, been exhibited in public, but together they form an exhibition held in Balingen, Germany from mid-June to mid-September 1996.

Brief, illustrated essays on each included artist's painting of women, folloowed by 79 full-color plates. Near Fine/VG. Book is as new save for several small ink spots to rear endpapers, light bump upper corners plates 7-8 well away from figures: bright, tight, sharp and unmarked. Jacket has 1" and 1/2" closed tears along upper and lower hinges, respectively (both internally tape repaired, though upper accompanied by 1/16" streak of surface loss). Surface chip to tip of lower rear corner. All else fine: clean and bright colors, titles and figures. In Brodart.
