Christine Streuli (*1975 in Bern) is one of an international, up-and-coming generation of artists devoted to the medium of painting and directing the discourse on this traditional genre into new channels. In her lavish, imagistic worlds the artist reflects on painting strategies and experiments with the suggestive charisma of form, color, ornamentation, sign, and pattern. The characteristic aesthetic of color and form make her works of art unmistakable. Starting with a group of works created for the Kunstmuseum Luzern, this publication is the first to offer an extensive survey of Streuli’s body of work. Numerous reproductions of paintings as well as photographs of installations enable experiencing the multifaceted qualities of her painting. Synopsis:
This book contains texts by Isabel Zurcher, Madeleine Schuppli, C.F. Schroer, Roman Kurzmeyer, Claudia Jolles, Deniz Pekerman, and Beat Wismer. Painting is spectacle, is sensation. Colourful and multileveled, experimental and large-scaled, Christine Streuli's medium trumpets its power. Her work is based on the availability of pictures in a present era that, at high speed, projects visual excitement into the world with the most varied of means and for varied ends. Christine Streuli, born 1975 in Switzerland, with a degree from the GKZ (Academy for Design and Art Zurich) in visual arts, later at the HDK in Berlin, has several times been the focus of attention over the past years. Just as at-home in drawing, in large and small formats, she developed paintings that invaded and filled the room for her 2005 exhibition at Kunstraum Kreuzlingen.
