The present study introduces one of the major works of Chicana literature and relates it to the ideology of the movement. During the Chicano Movement, women writers, instead of following their male counterparts, tried to establish their own identity politics. They started to deconstruct the gendered prejudice of movement ideology. This study probes to trace the process of the emergence of the Chicana identity that appeared in reaction against the paternalistic ideology of Chicano Movement. In this book, Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango Street is analyzed in terms of gender marginality in the politics of Chicano Movement.
