Diese Arbeit analysiert in einem ersten Schritt die dramaturgische Konstante im Werk Friedrich Dürrenmatts, die darin besteht, dass er im Gegensatz zur Antike einerseits und zu Brecht und Schiller andererseits seine Dramaturgie vom Einzelnen und vom Stoff her versteht. Im zweiten Schritt wird die inhaltliche Konstante im Werk Dürrenmatts analysiert. Der Autor sieht diese darin, dass Dürrenmatt die Frage nach dem Sinnverlust in der modernen Gesellschaft auf allen Ebenen thematisiert.
