Seit einiger Zeit erfahren Lebensqualitat und angrenzende Bezeichnungen wie Gluck, Zufriedenheit, Wohlbefinden, Wohlfahrt u.a.m. jedoch besondere Aufmerksamkeit - was sicherlich auch mit dem erreichten Wohlstand und den misslichen Folgen des wirtschaftlichen und technischen Fortschritts zu tun hat.In fast allen Lebensbereichen wird eine moglichst hohe Lebensqualitat angestrebt. Die wirtschaftlichen Verhaltnisse sollen stimmen, der Sozialstaat funktionieren, die medizinische Versorgung optimal sein, das Leben lange dauern und das Sterben menschenwurdig sein. Das alles ist jedoch nur begrenzt moglich, und im ubrigen bleibt der Begriff Lebensqualitat sehr vieldeutig."

Dr. phil. Alfred Bellebaum ist Ordentlicher Professor für Soziologie an der Universität Koblenz-Landau, Abt. Koblenz und Hon. Professor für Soziologie am Seminar für Soziologie an der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Bonn. Klaus Barheier ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Soziologie an der Universität Koblenz-Landau.
