Paperback. Condition: NEUF. Donner une idée des écrits de Fredrik Sjöberg est à la fois facile et très difficile. Facile parce qu'il suffit d'évoquer la prose envoûtante et mélancolique de W. G. Sebald et de dire : voici la même famille d'esprits, en plus humoristique, plus ludique, mais tout aussi fascinant et profond. Difficile, parce que, comme chez Sebald, c'est une prose inénarrable : la décrire c'est comme décrire un morceau de musique, c'est-à-dire passer à côté de l'essentiel. L'histoire ? Bien sûr, il y a une histoire : le narrateur, un entomologiste (comme l'auteur lui-même) commence à s'intéresser au destin d'un homme à facettes multiples : un scientifique, spécialiste des vers de terre, qui fut également historien d'art, viticulteur de renom, photographe, aquarelliste, mais aussi théosophe, ami de Strindberg et un des pionniers du mouvement écologique aux Etats-Unis. Gustaf Eisen (1847-1940) est le nom de cet étonnant personnage dont Fredrik Sjöberg raconte la vie - et ce faisant, il raconte la sienne propre : sa passion de collectionneur (d'insectes et de destins énigmatiques), son rapport à son travail, scientifique et littéraire, ses méditations sur la nature, sur la collecte et les collectionneurs, l'art et la science. Point de spéculations abstraites, il ne s'agit pas de bâtir un système ; des histoires drôles, des anecdotes, des saynètes constituent la matière première de cette prose à la fois légère et profonde.
