Zoé, cadre supérieure d'une grosse entreprise italienne, " control freak " plus cartésienne que Descartes lui-même, ne comprend pas quelle mouche a piqué son vieux père qui, d'après ses journaux intimes, est parti en voyage avec un certain Eustis, un prétendu satyre déchu de la cour errante de Dionysos, le Dieu de l'ivresse. Le paternel n'a pas perdu la boule ; Eustis existe bel et bien et il est perdu dans le monde des mortels, plus précisément dans un bois glacial où il s'ennuie à mourir en attendant que ses chers amis, endormis dans le fond d'un lac, se relève d'une ultime cuite. Mais une surprise toute particulière va le sortir de sa torpeur : Séléné, la Déesse de la Lune, lui envoie son avorton qu'elle a eu avec Pan, un petit satyre aux boucles blondes, pour qu'Eustis l'aide à trouver sur Terre sa place dans le cosmos, sa " spécialité " de Dieu. Eustis n'en croit pas ses oreilles : Pan et Séléné se sont offerts du bon temps et c'est lui qui doit en subir les conséquences ? ! Pas question de jouer le baby-sitter de Dieu pour les siècles à venir. Seule solution pour se débarrasser de cet enfant indésiré : se rendre à l'Olympe et demander à un Dieu de rang supérieur de le relever de cette tâche.
